Alt, Beck & Gottschalck, ABG is also known as Porzellanfabrik von Alt, it was founded by Gottlieb Beck and Theodor Gottschalck and joined by Friedrich Alt and Christian Ernst Reinhold in 1881, they were located in Nauendorf near Ohrdruf, Stutzhaus, Germany. ABG produced antique bisque, China head or Parian Lady dolls with kid, cloth or composition bodies, beautifully detailed child bisque socket head dolls and character baby dolls, all bisque dolls, as well as they decorated pottery from 1854 to around 1941. In 1920 the firms of Alt, Beck & Gottschalck, Alt & Koch, Carl Beck & Alfred Schulze merged. I was fortunate to visit a rather unique estate and brought home 3 car loads of items. Items found so far include ceramic pieces, ethnic items, Christmas, electronics (camera’s & radios), toys/ games, sewing items and just plain unusual items. The first is Father Christmas- this one is hinged – stands 6.25″ tall, and 3.5″ wide. Hinge moves freely, clips attached and work freely and are tight. Does show some minor patina or aging. The second is a Rare piece- Easter Bunny with basket- lots of Bunnies out there, ones that fit in the basket are more difficult to find. This mold is actually 4 pieces with the four original clips. It is also in excellent condition with some minor wear. Stands about 8″ tall with the basket, bunny is 6″, basket measures about 5″ x 4″. This vintage Letang Fils, Paris, chocolate mold is stamped with #150. There are no holes or rust, just wear associated with use. There is scratching on both front and back surfaces consistent with age. The inside is shiny and suitable for chocolate or crafts. Lots of detail in this beautiful mold. Antique Caged Hinged Easter Bunny Rabbit Candy Chocolate Mold 5 Five 18″x7″x2. A fabulous piece which would make a great display piece or could be used to make some fabulous chocolate Easter Bunnies! I have given this item an initial overall cleaning and insides of molds look very good but are not perfect. Please see photos for details of condition. What you see is what you get. The Easter Bunny (also called the Easter Rabbit or Easter Hare) is a folkloric figure and symbol of Easter, depicted as a rabbit-sometimes dressed with clothes-bringing Easter eggs. Originating among German Lutherans, the “Easter Hare” originally played the role of a judge, evaluating whether children were good or disobedient in behavior at the start of the season of Eastertide, similar to the “naughty or nice” list made by Santa Claus. As part of the legend, the creature carries colored eggs in its basket, as well as candy, and sometimes toys, to the homes of children. As such, the Easter Bunny again shows similarities to Santa (or the Christkind) and Christmas by bringing gifts to children on the night before a holiday. The custom was first mentioned in Georg Franck von Franckenau’s De ovis paschalibus (‘About Easter eggs’) in 1682, referring to a German tradition of an Easter Hare bringing eggs for the children.
