Antique primitive deeply carved butter stamp mold print folk art acorn detailed. Antique primitive deeply carved butter stamp mold print folk art heart detailed. This original round butter mold of an acorn surrounded by what looks like leaves and small detailing around the edge, shows the fine craftsmanship of its carver. It has a handle. It measures approximately 3 1/2″ in diameter and 3″ high with handle. It is showing signs of age with a few wood splits and discoloration and stains (see pictures). Note: pen NOT included, used for sizing. This was used to mold butter into shapes. Before modern methods of butter making, people made and molded butter by hand into pieces for individual use or sale. Different farms would have their own designs on its butter molds. They were used as early as Tudor times to decorate butter with images and words, but it was in the 19th century that they became incredibly popular, both in private kitchens and on farms to label and identify.
