This listing is for an estate sale find vintage/antique chocolate mold of a smiling or laughing tomcat or cat. The mold is hinged at the top and clamps on the bottom. It measures approximately 6.5″ tall x 3″ wide across the front, and 2.75 wide measured across the bottom front to back. The cat, itself, is about 5.25 tall. The mold is marked Anton Reich, Dresden, and numbered 210438-5. The vintage/antique chocolate mold is in good, usable condition for an older kitchen item. It has loads of patina, gray, dark coloring, marks, etc. Both inside and outside, and a bit of rust here and there see pictures, please. Hinges and bottom clamp work as designed and it closes well. NO SIDE CLAMPS needed to hold sides tightly closed.

The vintage large rabbit chocolate mold features a unique design with a basket on its back, making it a charming addition to any collection. Can be used to create hollow chocolate because of hinged bottom, or leave open for solid piece pouring. Finished rabbit size Ht. 9 1/2″ tall, 3 1/2″ wide. Antique Caged Hinged Easter Bunny Rabbit Candy Chocolate Mold 5 Five 18″x7″x2. A fabulous piece which would make a great display piece or could be used to make some fabulous chocolate Easter Bunnies! I have given this item an initial overall cleaning and insides of molds look very good but are not perfect. Please see photos for details of condition. What you see is what you get. The Easter Bunny (also called the Easter Rabbit or Easter Hare) is a folkloric figure and symbol of Easter, depicted as a rabbit-sometimes dressed with clothes-bringing Easter eggs. Originating among German Lutherans, the “Easter Hare” originally played the role of a judge, evaluating whether children were good or disobedient in behavior at the start of the season of Eastertide, similar to the “naughty or nice” list made by Santa Claus. As part of the legend, the creature carries colored eggs in its basket, as well as candy, and sometimes toys, to the homes of children. As such, the Easter Bunny again shows similarities to Santa (or the Christkind) and Christmas by bringing gifts to children on the night before a holiday. The custom was first mentioned in Georg Franck von Franckenau’s De ovis paschalibus (‘About Easter eggs’) in 1682, referring to a German tradition of an Easter Hare bringing eggs for the children.

I was fortunate to visit a rather unique estate and brought home 3 car loads of items. Items found so far include ceramic pieces, ethnic items, Christmas, electronics (camera’s & radios), toys/ games, sewing items and just plain unusual items. The first is Father Christmas- this one is hinged – stands 6.25″ tall, and 3.5″ wide. Hinge moves freely, clips attached and work freely and are tight. Does show some minor patina or aging. The second is a Rare piece- Easter Bunny with basket- lots of Bunnies out there, ones that fit in the basket are more difficult to find. This mold is actually 4 pieces with the four original clips. It is also in excellent condition with some minor wear. Stands about 8″ tall with the basket, bunny is 6″, basket measures about 5″ x 4″.
