Antique Hinged Double Santa Claus Chocolate Mold (Anton Reiche, Germany) c. 1920

I believe this antique double Santa Claus hinged chocolate mold was made by the Anton Reiche company in Dresden, Germany c. The hinges and snaps look similar to the molds made by Reiche as does the figure of Santa Claus. It is heavily made of tinned steel with the strong metal brackets and bracing associated with molds by Reiche. It is 9″ tall x 8.25″ wide x 2.5 deep. There are three small splits in the molds: two on Santa’s left glove and one just below the belt on the Santa on the right. The snaps and hinges all work beautifully and the interior tin lining is in good condition. Antique Vintage Chocolate Metal Mold of Bunny Rabbit Couple by Anton Reiche. Very old, rare antique chocolate mold m easures approx. 8″ x 8″ at widest points. As you can see in the photos this mold has the movement that is only found in the Anton Reiche molds. The copper is showing through in this mold which dates it to around 1830 – 1910 when chocolate molds where first made with copper which was the only metal material soft enough to stamp at the time (according to Dad’s Follies). I believe this mold may have been silvered over the copper. This lovely old mold shows the fine patina that only comes with age. Small crack under the tail of smaller rabbit. Makers mark is not visible. Perfect for your holiday display, to start a new collection, to add to an existing one, or to give as a very special gift. Antique 4- Santa Claus Chocolate Mold, unmarked. Style of mold is like those labeled Reiche Germany and I believe that is what this one is. Found an article about telling the age of vintage molds which read that if a magnet were attracted to the mold, then the mold’s tin-clad core was steel which was used from the early- to mid-20th century. A magnet will stick to this mold. Weighs 4 pounds and has a clip on each side. Stands 6.5 inches tall and 10.5 inches wide.
