For sale is a Vintage Anton Reiche 24 Cat Chocolate Mold measuring approximately 11½ tall by 10? The piece is marked Anton Reich, Dresden; Platinol; No. 1215 and is in lovely Vintage condition but does have areas of oxidation and surface wear. About Anton Reiche (September 28, 1845-July 16, 1913). Friedrich Anton Reiche was the master mold maker of his time. Many of his molds were made of nickel-coated sheet metal called “Platinol”. This creative entrepreneur founded the most important Chocolate Confectionary Molds in Germany, based in Dresden and the most sought-after. Reiche’s chocolate molds are interesting and intricately beautiful. The variety and diversity of his products made them the most desirable, and, by 1932, he had manufactured as many as 50,000 different molds. Order books from 1906 to 1914 show that all major confectionery factories in German-speaking countries were customers of Anton Reiche including but not limited to Stollwerck, Sarotti, Sprengel, and Waldbaur in Germany, Manner in Austria, Lindt, Suchard, and Tobler in Switzerland a Tjoklat in the Netherlands. Reiche also exported to the United States from 1885 until the start of World War II. Reiche’s amazing molds continue to be among the most collectible in the world.
