Antique Chocolate Molds Bride and Groom #s 23344 & 23343 Anton Reiche

These chocolate molds were likely used in a commercial operation as I believe that the hinges and clips were added for convenience. The bride has two bends of the metal mold bear one of her shoes. These bends are hardly noticeable and do not affect its intended use as a chocolate mold. They are obviously a cute young couple that are each about 7 1/4 tall. Anton Reiche 3 1/4 RUNNING RABBIT #25981 in Very Good Condition. Anton Reiche was a German entrepreneur born in 1845. He founded his chocolate mold manufacturing business in 1878 and from 1885 until the beginning of the Second World War his company exported molds to the United States. His son ran the company after his death in 1913. Reiche molds are of very high quality and have stood the test of time very well. TThis rabbit mold was used in the production of chocolate edibles in a small New England Mom and Pop candy store started in 1931. It is very collectable and also will make a delicious 3 1/4 inch long by 1 3/4 inch high impressively detailed chocolate rabbit. The cleverly placed flowers in the grass give this piece a sense of scale. The inside of this mold is pristine. Antique Chocolate Mold OLD WORLD SANTA Eppelsheimer #4739 Very Good Condition. A rare find I believe, this Old World Santa, St. Nick, or Father Christmas is dressed in a long coat pointed hat and a pair of boots. The coat has an interesting hem on the bottom. A few of these types of Santa’s that ive see are wearing a long robe. It was used in a quaint New England Mom and Pop candy store for many years.. This mold is in very good condition and comes complete with authentic clamp bars. The Makers Mark and mold number are visible. The mold will make a wonderfully detailed solid chocolate Old World Santa that will be 5 3/4 inches tall and 2 inches wide at the elbows. Antique Chocolate Mold -RARE -Randle & Smith Great Britain Hinged Santa #143

Hinged Santa chocolate mold, # 143. Founded in 1930, Randle & Smith, Ltd. Manufactured chocolate molds out of Birmingham, England. At the time, they were the only maker of early chocolate molds. After WW II, this firm recruited artisans from from Antone Reich in Germany. In 1960, Yorkshire Moulds, Ltd. Took over Randle & Smith. This Randle & Smith Santa has a great patina, is made of heavier metal than most chocolate molds, and has a solid bottom. Notice the great detail. The Santa is wearing a robe and pointed hat. He is carrying a sack with one hand in the sack. The hat is fur trimmed as is his coat around the collar and at the bottom. Note too that Santa’s robe or coat is double- breasted. See also the button hinge that is unique to this maker. This Santa is about 7″ tall X 3″ wide X 1 5/8 deep. The maker’s mark is on the hinge as is the mold number. Antique Chocolate Mold Heris Rabbit Driving Cargo Hauler #4194 Germany

This mold was made sometime between 1955 – 1960. The mold model number is stamped on the mold. However, in the attached photograph, and on the mold itself, the first digit (4) is hard to see but it is there. It is above the body of the truck near the clip on one side. Near the bunny tail, on both sides of the mold, there is a “4” stamped. This means that the it is the 4th mold — meaning that each are the other’s matched half of the mold. The length of the mold is about 6 1/2. The height of the mold is about 5. Obviously, there is a lot of oxidation on the mold that is commensurate with age. The mold is rated in rarity by Judene Divone’s book as B4. Provenance: The chocolate mold was used by a professional confectioner in Monroeville, PA (outside of Pittsburgh). The confectioner is now deceased. The confectionery was known as Danny’s Candies formerly located at 3828 Wm. The son told me that his father started out in business with a donut shop and then expanded to offer hard candies and chocolates. For ease of use, I believe that this confectioner added on the hinges and clamps to this chocolate mold. The ornaments shown in the first photograph are not included.
