1800’s Speculaas Wood Baking Board Cake Press Mold KH WENNINK TE WESTENDORP
Likely Dutch Featuring an Officer on Horseback. Approx: 13.25″ x10.5″ x 1, just over 3 lbs. This is a very rare and old hand carved wood press mold or “Speculaas” or “Springerie” mold. The wood appears to be a burl wood but we are not exactly sure, it is fairly thick and heavy. There was one other listed in a Museum in Netherlands as well. A very kind eBayer informed us this was a “Speculaas” mold. They were used in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Luxembourg (and other surrounding areas) around certain holidays to make a spiced shortcrust biscuit (some may call a cookie or cake). Most just identified these as cookie or cake molds. All other’s we found were noted as Dutch, German, Austrian and the maker names seems to fit, just not 100% sure. We noted country of making as the Netherlands as that was the closest guess given they had one in a museum. Let us know if you have questions. You can also Google search the names to find out more history. Great decorator piece and addition to any antique press mold collection. We do this often.
