Antique Vintage Chocolate Metal Mold of Bunny Rabbit Couple by Anton Reiche. Very old, rare antique chocolate mold m easures approx. 8″ x 8″ at widest points. As you can see in the photos this mold has the movement that is only found in the Anton Reiche molds. The copper is showing through in this mold which dates it to around 1830 – 1910 when chocolate molds where first made with copper which was the only metal material soft enough to stamp at the time (according to Dad’s Follies). I believe this mold may have been silvered over the copper. This lovely old mold shows the fine patina that only comes with age. Small crack under the tail of smaller rabbit. Makers mark is not visible. Perfect for your holiday display, to start a new collection, to add to an existing one, or to give as a very special gift. Because of age, this mold is perfect for collecting or crafting but is not food grade safe. During WWII many chocolate factories were either forced to shut down or were bombed, leaving very little standing. In order to save these articles of history some molds were buried so as not to be melted down for the use of their metal content, or were lost to the ravages of war. Please see photos which depict the condition of the mold which show wear such as scratches, dents and marks, as these are your main point of reference for condition which are consistent with their age and prior use.
