This is a wonderful old mold made of heavy metal with great patina and in excellent condition for it’s age, the two halves match perfectly and it is calm free inside and out there is a little bit of rust. This chocolate form has been used and has traces of it (photos). Furthermore there is 1 clip to hold the two halves together. It was produced in 3 sizes. In 1870, Friedrich Anton Reiche founded a production facility for tin coatings in Dresden and established a factory for tin boxes and chocolate molds in 1888. At one time, Anton Reiche Dresden had 2000 employees. Anton Reiche manufactured numerous beautiful molds. In particular they developed the Platinol molds, nickel-coated sheet metal molds. In 1932 there were as many as 50,000 different molds. Saint Nicholas is the patron saint of children in portions of Europe. A story tells of three theological students traveling on their way to study in Athens. A wicked innkeeper robbed and murdered them, hiding their remains in a large pickling tub. Saint Nicholas (then a Bishop) traveling along the same route, stopped at the inn. In the night he dreamed of the crime, got up, and summoned the innkeeper. As Nicholas earnestly prayed to God the three boys were restored to life and wholeness. In France the story is told of three small children, wandering until lost, lured, and captured by an evil butcher. Nicholas appears and appeals to God to return them to life and to their families. Nicholas is the patron and protector of children. Stats and other items show Saint Nicholas and the children in a tub (sometimes three children and sometimes two). This is what this mold depicts.
